Today, we made the 1.5 hour trek to what is apparently Britain's 2nd largest shopping centre. Crazy to go all that way for a shopping centre, right? But we have been hearing about it since we arrived and had some shopping to do anyway, so we decided to check it out. It was OK, but nothing to write home about. Oh, wait, I guess I'm kinda doing that... Anyway, by Australian standards, it was still decent sized, I guess, but wouldn't be considered huge. What really makes it big is the way it is laid out and the fact that it is built into an old quarry or something and has artificial lakes and bike tracks and stuff in addition to the shops. Ok, I guess it was kinda cool. But it even made Graeme homesick, so maybe thats why I have mixed feelings about it. We realised how much we missed going to a real shopping centre. Does that mean we are massive consumers? Not really. We didn't even buy that much today. But its nice to go to one place for all (well, most) of your shopping needs, to have a food court or other options for eating, to be undercover the whole time. We are realising we belong in the suburbs of a biggish city, not the centre of a massive one.

Watched Robin last night with the boys (big ones) we all enjoyed it. Thanks. Don't miss shopping centres too much. Think about all the great places you can go for the weekend from there that take way tooo long from here! But that said would also miss convenience if it wasn't there.
ReplyDeleteLondon shopping is definitely different from Aussie shopping! Did you go to the big shopping centres in Paris? Is the US more like Aussie shopping? Italy didn't have big shopping centres either. There were lots of cafes with gelato and amazing hot chocolate though!
